The Power of a Legacy
Dorothy Mitsuoka changed one of her deepest regrets into one of her fondest dreams. The Dinuba citrus farmer wanted a college education but was unable to pursue one. A generous, hardworking soul, Dorothy passed away in 2008 at age 75. In her will, she left more than $2 million to provide local students in Reedley, Dinuba, and Orange Cove an opportunity for the education she never had. The Dorothy Mitsuoka Endowment Fund is her gift in perpetuity to the children in her community. Inspired by Dorothy’s vision and generosity, the Foundation extends her legacy by supporting initiatives that help these students prepare for and succeed in college. Grantees have included PIQE, which teaches parents how to put their kids on a college path, and Community Services Employment Training, which helps youth build confidence and set goals, including going to college. In life, Dorothy grew citrus. Her legacy plants seeds in the imaginations of young people.
